ExploScience was started by Chris Schrempp with the mission to increase availability of chemistry resources to teachers. It was launced in 2005 with the writing of "Bangs, Flashes, and Explosions", a chemistry demonstration manual. Videos of the demonstrations where slowly added to this website, and at the request of several educators, DVDs of the demos were added.
Since then, Dr. Schrempp has been slowly building the website to include lesson ideas, worksheets, and other resources for science educators.
Schrempp grew up in Wenatchee, a small city in central Washington State. After graduating from Eastmont High School in 1976, he attended Washington State University in Pullman, WA.  As a proud, second-generation WSU cougar, he was president of his pharmacy class, graduating with B.Pharm and B.Physical Science degrees in 1982 .

Following this, he moved to Seattle to attend graduate school at the University of Washington. In 1984 he completed his Doctor of Pharmacy degree and Hospital Pharmacy Residency.
He was married to his wife, Melissa, in the summer of 1984. He then accepted a position at the University of Washington as a member of the University Hospital Cardiac Surgery team. In 1987 he transferred to the U of W’s Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, a regional trauma center. There he enjoyed several years of practicing as a member of the Cardiac Critical Care Team. In later years he also worked as a consultant pharmacist in the Seattle area.
With a desire to teach, and in search of a more family-oriented schedule, Schrempp earned his Master of Education degree from Central Washington University in 1999.   He taught science at Cashmere High School
(9-12 population 450 students).   In 2000 he relocated with his family to Alta Loma to be closer to his wife’s family.   He taught physical science and chemistry at Montclair High School from 2000 to 2003, and then accepted his   current position at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga , CA
Schrempp currently teaches general chemistry and AP chemistry at LOHS, is advisor for the LOHS Chem Club, Red Cross and Anime Clubs.   He spends much of his spare time fine-tuning and adding to his book, “Bangs, Flashes, and Explosions – An Illustrated Collection of Dynamic and Thrilling Chemistry Demonstrations and Activities”.   In a labor of love, he has spent many hundreds of hours researching, testing, writing, and photographing the over 200 demonstrations and activities that appear in various sections of this website.  Always on the search for new and exciting activities, he can usually be found in his classroom after hours, tinkering with a new procedure or gadget, or attempting to shoot another demo movie.

As for the more normal hours of his life, Schrempp can be found at home with his wife, Melissa, daughters Kami and Kelsey, and their menagerie of dogs, cats, rabbits and fish.
